Spongebob SquarePants: Reef Rumble Walkthrough
SpongeBob SquarePants: Reef Rumble is a fighting game based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants. This fighting game features characters from the TV show, excellent graphics, and simple controls.
The two modes of gameplay in SpongeBob SquarePants: Reef Rumble are Arcade Mode and Tournament Mode. Arcade Mode lets you pick your opponent and can serve as an excellent way to practice the controls of this fighting game. In Tournament Mode, you select your character and face off against five other fighters. If you complete the tournament, you will unlock two additional characters. Your data is saved at the end of each game, so any characters that you unlock will be available to select the next time that you play.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Reef Rumble uses simple keyboard controls. The left and right arrow keys are used to move and the up arrow key jumps. The down arrow key is used to block. Punches and kicks are performed by using the A and S keys respectively. Each character has their own special move in this fighting game. The keystroke combination for your character's special move is given before each game, so pay attention if you want to use projectile attacks. Special moves do not deal incredible damage, however, and they are not necessary to win the game.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Reef Rumble is designed for younger players and it shows. Veterans of fighting games that expect technical combinations, throws, and hyper combo finishers will be sorely disappointed. The AI of the game is also subpar. The AI has a tendency to stand still and keep blocking, allowing players to pound on the computer-controlled opponent and whittle away their health. This makes the game incredibly easy, with the exception of the fight against SpongeBob himself. Since SpongeBob ducks and makes a very small target when blocking, it is possible that your attacks will miss him entirely, especially when using large characters like Larry the Lobster. You can either choose a character that strikes low, such as Patrick Star, or use patience and wait until SpongeBob stops turtling to pummel him.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Reef Rumble is a fun game for kids and fans of the show, but it probably won't meet the standards of fighting game fanatics. If you are looking for the next Street Fighter, you will have to look elsewhere.
