Portal Defenders Walkthrough
Newgrounds is a popular Flash animation and gaming site that was established in 1995 by Tom Fulp (although its first Flash games were placed online in 1996). The Flash Portal, a system that allows users to submit their work to the site, have it judged, and judge the works of others was released in 2000. Despite the fact that the voting system was put in place, some spam and shock animations still slipped past judgment. This is where you come in.
Portal Defenders is a beat 'em up game where you must defend the Newgrounds Flash Portal from spammers such as the Kitten Krew. At the beginning of the game, you can only choose between Tom Fulp (founder of Newgrounds) or Dan Paladin (also known as Synj, the designer of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers). Completing the game with these characters unlocks additional characters that may be used the next time that you play this fighting game. Each character has their own attributes, so choose the one that best fits your playing style and blam the spammers into oblivion!
Portal Defenders uses a keyboard control scheme. The arrow keys are used to move and the S key is used to jump. Basic attacks are performed by using the A key. You may also continuously tap the A key while attacking to perform combos. The D key is used to perform devastating special attacks, but use them sparingly since your supply is limited!
Portal Defenders does a great job of emulating popular arcade beat 'em ups such as X-Men of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you are an old-school gamer that has played these games or games like it, then you should not have too much trouble with this fighting game. Younger gamers that have been coddled with constant hints and regenerating health may have some trouble, however. If you find yourself having trouble, then the following tips may help. First, try to isolate enemies to deal with them one-on-one when possible. Combinations work wonders, and there is no shame in juggling your opponents or hitting them while they're down. Finally, try not to get surrounded by enemies. If an enemy comes up behind you, jumping away may help. Always try to keep your opponents in front of you!
You may have to be a veteran Newgrounds user to fully understand the humor in Portal Defenders, but any gamer can enjoy the fighting game action. The only thing that this beat 'em up game lacks is a two-player mode!
