Mario Combat Walkthrough
If you are a fan of the Super Mario Bros. series of platform games, you should know that Mario typically deals with his enemies by jumping on them or throwing fireballs. It seems that Mario has grown tired of his modus operandi because in the fighting game of Mario Combat, he employs punches and kicks! This beat 'em up game features modified sprites from the SNES game, Super Mario World and fast-paced gameplay.
Your ultimate goal in Mario Combat is to defeat Bowser. You are not trying to save Princess Peach (why bother, she wouldn't even kiss you if you did), you only want to put your boot to Bowser's shelled behind! Along the way, you will have to beat up swarms of Koopas and scale challenging terrain. This fighting game is very short and can be completed in less then five minutes.
The keyboard is used to control Mario Combat. The left and right arrow keys are used to move and the up arrow key is used to jump. Unlike other Mario games, jumping on enemies does not damage them. If you want to damage enemies in this fighting game, you will have to attack them by using the A key. Tap the A key rapidly to perform combination attacks, or hold arrow keys in conjunction with the A key to perform special attacks (for example, holding the down arrow key while pressing the A key performs an uppercut).
If you are familiar with how beat 'em up games work, then you will do fine in Mario Combat. As always, you should try to keep your opponents in front of you and avoid being surrounded or cornered. Combination attacks work wonders since they stun your opponents and keep them from attacking while you thrash them. You do not have to beat all of the Koopas to advance, so you can speed past them all and skip to the fight with Bowser, but if you're looking for a high score, you will have to defeat the minions as well.
Mario Combat is a fun fighting game that gives a fresh look to a classic character. The only problem with Mario Combat is its brevity, but casual gamers that are looking for a quick beat 'em up break may appreciate this factor as well.
