Avatar: 4 Nations Tournament Walkthrough
Avatar: 4 Nations Tournament is a fighting game based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series, "Avatar: The Last Airbender". This sports game features four selectable characters from the show, colorful graphics, and splendid audio.
Avatar: 4 Nations Tournament plays similar to the classic game, Pong. Your objective is to shoot the ball into your opponent's goal. Matches consist of three rounds that are played best two out of three. The first player to score five goals wins the round. Players can choose to play against the computer or against a friend using the same keyboard.
Avatar: 4 Nations Tournament uses a keyboard control scheme that may seem awkward to first-time players. The arrow keys are used to move. The plus (+) and minus(-) keys are used to activate defensive and offensive powers respectively. This scheme works, but it is odd that the developers of this fighting game would choose to use the plus and minus keys rather than something more tried and true such as the N and M keys. The spacebar is used to serve the ball. When playing a two-player game, the second player uses the WASD keys to move and the 1 and 2 keys to perform defensive and offensive techniques.
When playing Avatar: 4 Nations Tournament, you must keep in mind that Pong serves as the basis of the game. You do not always have to use your powers, instead, you only have to use your character as a "paddle" to deflect the ball. Special powers should only be used to make quick saves or surprise your opponent since doing so depletes your energy bar. Keep in mind that each character in this fighting game has their own elemental powers, so experiment with the different characters and find out which powers work best for you.
Avatar: 4 Nations Tournament is essentially Pong with two-dimensional movement, characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and special moves. Due to its underlying nature as a sports game, Avatar: 4 Nations Tournament may disappoint fighting game enthusiasts, but fans of the TV show or gamers looking for something different will have fun.
